Quinlan City Council 2026 Update: Election News, Infrastructure Projects, and Community Events

Keeping up with local government is essential for every resident. From the 2026 General Election updates to critical infrastructure tours, the Quinlan City Council has been busy throughout the first quarter of the year. Here is a comprehensive recap of the key decisions and events affecting our community.

2026 General Election: Unopposed Candidates and Cancellation

One of the most significant updates for residents is the status of the upcoming local elections. Originally ordered for May 2, 2026, to elect three Council Members for Places 1, 3, and 5, the election has officially been canceled.

The City Secretary certified that the following candidates ran unopposed for their respective seats:

  • Place 1: Susan Hernandez
  • Place 3: Tommy Underwood
  • Place 5: Miguel Serrano

Because these candidates faced no opposition, they have been certified as elected, and the city will save the costs associated with holding a formal election.

Investing in Infrastructure: Utility Tours and Rate Studies

The City Council is taking a “hands-on” approach to Quinlan’s growth. On February 18, 2026, the Council conducted a Site Visit and Workshop to tour the city’s utility system infrastructure. This tour included detailed inspections of the Wastewater Treatment Plant and the Gin Pump Station to ensure the city is prepared for future needs.

Furthermore, the Council authorized a Professional Services Agreement with NewGen Strategies & Solutions to conduct a comprehensive water and wastewater rate study. This study is a vital step in maintaining the long-term sustainability of Quinlan’s utility services.

Community Spotlight: “Chunk Your Junk” Spring Cleanup

Get ready to clear out the clutter! The City Council has officially designated April 9th through April 11th, 2026, as the “Chunk Your Junk” Spring Cleanup days. This event is a great opportunity for Quinlan residents to dispose of unwanted items and help keep our city beautiful.

Legal and Administrative Appointments

There have been several changes to the city’s legal and judicial leadership:

  • Judicial Resignation: The Council accepted the resignation of Judge Hershey Barnett in January.
  • New Appointments: Following the resignation, the city moved to appoint a new Municipal Judge and Associate Municipal Judge in February.
  • City Prosecutor: In March, Hyattye Simmons was officially appointed as the City Prosecutor for the City of Quinlan.

Economic Development and Public Safety

The city continues to modernize with updates on EV Charging Stations planned for the Quinlan Police Department parking lot. Additionally, the Police Chief presented the 2025 Racial Profiling Report during the March meeting, ensuring transparency and compliance with state standards.

For those interested in local development, the Council has been active in executive sessions regarding the “Fountains Project” and has approved agreements with Cypress Park, LLC and Safari Development Services, LLC.

How to Stay Involved

Quinlan City Council meetings are generally held at the Council Chambers located at 104 E. Main St.. Residents are encouraged to attend and can participate during the Citizen Comments portion of the agenda.

Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to track the progress of these local initiatives!
